TIKO – The Tiko Fish Market, a flagship initiative of Tiko Council, is set to become operational in the coming days, marking another milestone in the municipality’s efforts to promote local economic development and strengthen the fisheries sector.

The announcement was made during a meeting held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Mayor’s Chambers, which brought together officials of Tiko Council and members of the Fako Fish Farmers Association, a civil society organization.

Speaking during the meeting, Mayor HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III expressed appreciation to the Fako Fish Farmers Association for partnering with the Council to ensure the effective operation of the Tiko Fish Market at Custom Beach.

The Mayor highlighted the importance of the facility in promoting aquaculture within the municipality, noting that it would contribute to increased fish production and support the development of the local fisheries value chain.

Conceived in 2022 and executed in 2023 under the leadership of Mayor HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III, the Tiko Fish Market project was designed to provide a modern trading space for fish farmers and traders while stimulating economic activities in the municipality.

The meeting was attended by the Fourth Deputy Mayor, Waindim Rudolf, the Council Communal Development Officer, HRM Mbollo Ndedi Yves Patrice, other Council staff, and representatives of the Fako Fish Farmers Association.

Once operational, the market is expected to create employment opportunities, improve access to quality fish products, support fish farmers, and enhance the local economy by strengthening the fisheries sector in Tiko Municipality.
