TIKO – Tiko Council has held a consultation meeting with property owners whose structures are located along the road corridor stretching from Bobga Street, Buea Road, Mutengene, through Electric Line to the Full Gospel Entrance on Limbe Road as preparations intensify for the road pavement project.
The meeting, held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Tiko Council Hall, was chaired by the Mayor of Tiko Council, HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III, and formed part of the Council’s commitment to ensuring stakeholder engagement before the commencement of the development project.
Present at the meeting were the Fourth Deputy Mayor, Waindim Rudolf; the Chief of Administration, Mrs. Coretta Etugengolle Makia; the Chief of Technical Service, Madam Glory Agbor; the Town Planning Engineer, Engr. Esunge John; the Municipal Police Officer, Teboh George; the Litigation Officer, Mr. Douala Dipita; and members of the Tiko Council Communication Team.
Dialogue Before Development
Addressing the gathering, Mayor HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III explained that the consultation was organized to encourage collaboration between residents and the Council, particularly those whose structures encroach on the road reserve.
He emphasized that the exercise is purely a development initiative and should not be viewed as an attempt to target or victimize any individual.
According to the Mayor, the consultation was intended to prevent misunderstandings and conflicts once construction begins, while ensuring that all stakeholders are adequately informed about the project.
He further disclosed that the final demarcation of structures affected by the road reserve would be carried out in the coming days, after which the demolition of encroachments would proceed in accordance with the project’s implementation plan.
Calling for cooperation from all concerned, Mayor Mesoso III urged residents to support the initiative so that work on the road can begin without unnecessary delays.
Residents Welcome the Initiative
Residents whose properties may be affected commended Tiko Council for engaging them before the commencement of the project. While acknowledging that some structures would be impacted, they expressed appreciation for the Council’s commitment to development and appealed for dialogue, fairness, and mutual understanding throughout the demarcation and demolition process.
Building on Previous Experience
Tiko Council noted that a similar consultative approach was adopted before the pavement of roads in Likomba, from the bridge through the market to Tchombes Quarter, where residents were equally engaged before the commencement of works.
The consultation reflects the Council’s commitment to inclusive development, transparency, and community participation as it continues to improve road infrastructure and enhance mobility across Tiko Municipality.
