The  Tiko Council on Wednesday, August 12, 2026  hosted a Constituent General Assembly for the establishment of a Municipal Committee for the Participatory Management of Water Points in Tiko Municipality.

The one-day workshop took place at the Tiko Council Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It was organized by the South West Regional Coordination of the Dynamique Citoyenne Network.

The workshop aimed at strengthening community participation in the management, sustainability, and governance* of water points within the municipality.

The meeting brought together representatives of Tiko Council, Traditional authorities, Quarter heads, members of existing Water Management Committees, and representatives of village committees.

Discussions focused on the need for greater community involvement* in the management of water facilities, particularly in ensuring their sustainability and proper governance.

Participants also examined ways through which local communities and relevant stakeholders* can work together to improve the management of water points across *Tiko Municipality*.

A major outcome of the gathering was the *initiation of the process to establish a Municipal Committee*. The committee will serve as a framework for *coordinating participatory management of water points* and for *strengthening collaboration* among communities, local authorities, and other stakeholders.

In a nutshell, the initiative is expected to contribute to improved accountability and community ownership in the management of water resources. It will also encourage residents to play a more active role in *safeguarding water facilities* within their communities.

During the session, Tiko Council Mayor HRH Dr Peter Ikome Mesoso III was represented by the fourth Deputy Mayor , Mr Waindim Rudolf.
